As the old saying goes, one of the best ways to touch someone’s heart is through their stomach. A great way to celebrate Mother’s Day with your mom is to cook one of her favorite meals together.  

Whether it be breakfast, lunch, or dinner, she will enjoy some home cooked food, especially when it is made just for her. A special meal is also a great way to gather the whole family together for a joyous occasion.

Visit a Park or a Botanic Garden

A visit to a local park or botanic garden can be another unique way to spend Mother’s Day with your mom. You can take a picnic lunch and some of her favorite music to enjoy together.  

If she is physically capable, take her for a walk to experience the sights and sounds of nature. Should your visit require a wheel chair, there are many parks and gardens with paved paths and other accommodations for people with limited mobility.

Spa Day

Nothing says pamper like treating your mom to a spa day. Spas offer a wide variety of services, including pedicures, manicures, massages, steam rooms, facials and more. Ask your mom which of these services she would appreciate most on her special day.

Some spas specialize in catering to people with mobility issues, so be sure to ask the one you’re considering what they can do to make mom’s visit as enjoyable and comfortable as possible.

A Quiet Game or Puzzle Day

Sometimes quality time together with a loved one can be done right at home. If your mom likes to play games or work on puzzles, plan a nice quiet day where a few family members can get together to enjoy time with her.  

Ask mom what her favorite games or puzzles were as a child. Many of the classic board games and puzzles are still widely available. Occasions like this are great opportunities for families to tell stories or share precious memories.

Everyone will enjoy spending time with grandma and each other. Be sure to take pictures so everyone can remember the special event.  

A Special Gift

Is there something that you think mom will really love as a Mother’s Day gift? Maybe it’s a special present, or something a little bit more on the practical side. If she is a resident of an Assisted Living or Memory Care community, she might want something for her room, such as books or pictures.
