Spark® is a research-based program inspired by the teachings and research of Maria Montessori and Dr. Cameron Camp, which focuses on giving residents meaningful ways to feel needed and be productive. We use tailor-fit assessment tools to evaluate each resident’s capabilities and strengths so that the program can best meet their needs.
The Four Pillars of the Frontier Spark® Program
The effectiveness and success of our Spark® program for Memory Care residents is based on 4 foundational pillars.
- Social: We ensure that each resident has a role in the community that allows them to interact with others.
- Skills Focused: Our Montessori Assessment Tool uncovers remaining skills often missed by traditional evaluations.
- Procedural Memory: Skills can be learned and even improved through repetitive “procedural learning,” which allows residents to perform routine activities with less concerted effort.
- Progression & Goal Setting: Residents who work on projects or learn new things over a period of time with a set goal in mind feel more engaged and successful.
Our mission is to inspire contribution, productivity, and engagement from all of our residents. Residents are encouraged to participate in various activities based on their interests and abilities. We celebrate our seniors as the unique individuals that they are by providing them with both meaningful experiences and proven therapeutic techniques to help them retain their cognitive capabilities to the fullest extent possible.

Memory Care vs. Assisted Living
Choosing the right care for your loved one is an important decision, and understanding the difference between Assisted Living and Memory Care is key. Assisted Living services are designed for seniors who may need assistance with daily tasks such as housekeeping or personal care, but who are mostly independent. These services ensure that residents receive the support they need to live comfortably and safely.
Memory Care at The Reserve at Oswego is specifically tailored for those living with Alzheimer’s, dementia, or other cognitive challenges. While our Memory Care residents also benefit from the comprehensive assisted living services we offer, they receive an additional layer of specialized care in a secure and nurturing environment. Our team of dedicated professionals is trained to address the unique needs of each Memory Care resident, offering compassionate support that adapts as their condition progresses.
What truly sets The Reserve at Oswego apart is our commitment to combining high-quality assisted living services with expert memory care. As your loved one’s needs evolve, our Memory Care program ensures they receive the appropriate level of care, fostering their well-being and preserving their dignity. At The Reserve at Oswego, we provide peace of mind through compassionate, personalized care that meets your loved one’s needs at every stage. Learn what ADLs are and download the checklist.

The effectiveness and success of our Spark® program for Assisted Living and Memory Care residents is based on these 4 foundational pillars:
SOCIAL ROLES
Everyone has a desire to be useful, so we ensure that each resident has a role in the community. Working the front desk or serving neighbors are examples of meaningful tasks that empower and connect residents.
SKILLS FOCUSED
Our Montessori Assessment Tool, created by the Center for Applied Research in Dementia, uncovers remaining skills often missed by traditional assessments. We can than strengthen and build on those identified skills.
PROCEDURAL MEMORY
Skills can be learned or improved through “procedural learning.” This repetition then allows routine activities to be performed with less need for concerted concentration.
PROGRESSION AND GOAL SETTING
By working on projects or learning topics over a longer period of time, always progressing toward a goal, residents become fully engaged and feel more successful.
Nothing says a cozy night in quite like a comforting, delicious cup of hot chocolate made right here at the Reserve at Oswego by our very own residents. Through our award-winning Spark® program, our residents can stay active in creative ventures, including our fan-favorite hot chocolate creations.
Each homemade hot chocolate is made with love and passion, beautifully given to each purchaser or fellow community member in a sturdy jar.
